Why The Name?

In choosing the name for my publishing company, I didn’t mean to exclude men.  Fortunately, many male readers have figured this out.  To me, “Women’s Intuition” is simply the most widely used expression in everyday life where people acknowledge using deeper perception.  My goal is to take that everyday perception further, yet to simultaneously keep that perception real, connected to everyday situations, problems, needs, discoveries, adventures. 

Why the Company?

Imagine, self-publishing was not my original career goal as a writer!  My first title, with Contemporary Books, was remaindered within months.  When I self-published my next book, under the imprint of Aha! Experiences, I yearned to become successful enough to attract interest from one of the big houses.  Eventually this happened.  In 1990, Bantam-Doubleday-Dell bought the rights to I Can Read Your Face.  

Alas, this turned out to be a mixed blessing.  Dell edited my spiritually oriented, how-to book down to within a half-inch of its life, a mere 25% of its original length, and positioned this as “a trivia book.”  I’ll spare you the tale of other indignities.  Long story short, I recommitted to self-publishing and launched WIW in 1986 by publishing Aura Reading Through All Your Senses. 

What I Don’t Publish

How I admire the way Louise Hay has expanded her personal imprint from one stapled, self-written booklet, Heal Your Body, which I bought back in the day along with millions of other readers.  As you may know, Louise went on to develop Hay House into a prestigious and profitable press that showcases work from many New Age writers.  I am no Louise Hay.  Despite having received numerous invitations to publish the work of other writers, I have no desire to engage.  Sorry!  

But I will continue to publish my own work in America until approached by a bigger house that wins my heart.  This “Mr. Write” will have to be plenty courageous because my books are written at the leading edge of the New Age.  Why?  I write where inspiration takes me, not because of being a big risk-taker.  I’m actually one of the most conservative professional "woo-woo’s" (and flaming liberals) you’ll ever meet.  

How an Independent Press Can Benefit You, the Reader

Why would my being a self-publisher work to your advantage as a reader?  Profit is not my primary motive.  Instead, there’s that previously-mentioned desire to serve humanity.  Therefore, Women's Intuition Worldwide never publishes due to market research.  Nor do we try to cash in on other people’s discoveries.   

And I can promise you that no book you buy from us will ever be published frivolously.  You won’t find a big name, a gamble, some cute idea that just might catch the public’s fancy.  Anything published here is a labor of love, something I believe in so strongly that I’m willing to pay my own money to publish it.   

Recently a writer who has been very successful in mainstream publishing told me I was giving too much in one of my books.  There was enough for two books, she said.  It would be smarter to promise, and deliver, less. 

She also gave me the following advice:  People do not read.  They are lazy.  So a writer must select a few ideas to get across." 

You’ve read plenty books based on that assumption, haven’t you?  All the Dummies books aren’t labeled, are they?  

I am, however, constitutionally incapable of this kind of publishing.  So when I publish a book I promise you this:  I will fill it to the brim with new concepts, tested ideas, and everything relevant that will add value for you, like the three (count ‘em, 3!) indexes in each of my face reading books.

If I were a typical publisher, I’d save stuff like this for a high-concept book.  But, I’d rather make indexes generously, and give readers a chance to explore at will.
